February 2017

ICDM wishes you a happy and prosperous new year.  Isithumba Community Development Movement, opened its doors earlier this year with many new and different recreational activities and we are proud to announce that the attendance at the after school programme has increased enormously with mass participation from all different ages.  This year ICDM aims to install more infrastructure and improve the play grounds. As a non-profitable organisation we rely heavily on donations and sponsorships, which we depend on greatly to develop and add variety to the programmes that we offer.

At the beginning of this year ICDM retained its partnership with Econtur, a Germany-based organisation. ICDM will be hosting a volunteer from Econtur later this year for a one year period.  Moreover the ICDM short term volunteer programme is growing fast, hosting volunteers from all parts of the world.  Our youth are being exposed to different cultures and are beginning to understand how the world can be integrated despite having different cultures and backgrounds.

ICDM welcomed Christian, famously known at Isithumba as Mude mude because of his height.  Christian is part of the ICDM strategic team.  Christian was able to distribute clothes donated by UBUNTU, Volker and himself for the youth as part of his visit. Christian came to Isithumba with his friend who donated a soccer kits for the ICDM’s under 19 team.  Following the handout of the kits there was a soccer match played to welcome them. Both played as goalkeepers for their teams.  ICDM extended its gratitude to thank Volker and Christian for their contributions to a good cause.

ICDM participated in a sport tournament hosted at Kwamkhizwane.  Our under 16 soccer team played with great enthusiasm and courage but unfortunately it wasn’t their day as they suffered a defeat.  On the other hand our DRI Stokkies team played very well as they came second.  In fact they were just one metre short of winning.  This coming weekend our under 19 will be playing soccer match with Benficar Football Club.

ICDM and Mkhizwane youth participated in a triathlon event on the 24 which was held in iNanda Durban Green Corridor site. The event was a great success, our youth exceeding our expectations since they were rookies, but they were victorious in the cycling event, taking the first position on both categories of under 13 and under 16.  The event was organised by Be Active Sport who aim to develop triathlon sport with the black communities since it is presently more of a white dominated sport.  More importantly ICDM would like thank the Municipality Department of Sport and Recreation, headed by Teddi Adams and Zola who are responsible for KwaXimba area.  Through their support with transportation our youth were able to participate in this triathlon event.

In March ICDM are very much looking forward to hosting the leader of World Horizon, Kimon Schmid, and some of his volunteers who are presently working in Soweto as part of the Weltwärt Program from Germany.   They will spend 2 nights in Isithumba and will be introduced to the ICDM and its programs.

We also look forward to hosting the Track and Field Bremen’s (BVL) Matthias Reick. He will be visiting with a group of trainers as part of the long term co-operation with Durban in the field of athletics.

The ICDM is happy to announce that the building of the playgrounds will be possible through a donation from Cumbria’s Kirkby Stephen Grammar School in the UK through the support of our old time friend Kate Knight.

ICDM We are the future!!
